What made you become an entrepreneur?
João: The drive to become an entrepreneur stemmed from a desire to challenge the status quo within the biotech industry, nowadays the endurance sports tech industry. Witnessing the limitations of traditional running events and the untapped potential of integrating technology, I saw an opportunity to innovate and create more immersive, engaging experiences for athletes and spectators alike. The passion for pushing boundaries and the ambition to lead a change that would not only enhance the sports landscape but also build a community around it was the cornerstone of founding One Hundred Sports Group.
What is the most challenging part of running your own startup?
João: One of the most challenging aspects of running a startup, especially in sports technology, is navigating the rapid pace of technological change while ensuring that we remain accessible and relevant to our diverse community of users. Balancing innovation with user-centric design, managing resource constraints, and scaling our operations globally while maintaining a high standard of service are all intricate parts of the journey that demand constant learning, adaptability, and resilience.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced when looking for funding?
João: The biggest challenge in seeking funding has been conveying the long-term vision and potential of integrating technology with traditional endurance sports to investors who may not be familiar with the industry. The nature of our market, combined with the innovative approach of blending AI and sports technology, requires a deep understanding and belief in the transformative impact of our projects.
What is the most rewarding aspect of entrepreneurship?
João: The most rewarding aspect of entrepreneurship is witnessing the tangible impact of our efforts on the community. From athletes who achieve their personal bests using our technology, to spectators who experience the thrill of endurance sports in new ways, the positive feedback and stories of inspiration fuel our passion. Additionally, leading a team that is equally committed to innovation and excellence, and seeing our collective vision come to life, is incredibly fulfilling. The opportunity to chart a new course and contribute to the evolution of endurance sports is what makes all the challenges worth it.
