Startup Of The Week : Nanolope

In this edition, we present you Nanolope, a PropTech and Advanced Materials startup revolutionizing how buildings store and manage heat. Their unique thermal storage technology turns facades into passive energy systems, dramatically reducing heating costs and fossil fuel dependency. We spoke to the founder of Nanolope to find out more.

Tell us about your company.

Founder: At Nanolope, we are transforming building facades into ultra-efficient thermal batteries using our patented shape-stabilized phase change materials (ss-PCMs). These materials can store up to 24x more energy per volume than traditional systems — and up to 10x more than any competitor with the same mechanical stability. Our goal is to make every wall part of the energy solution. Based in Berlin and backed by a €1.6M grant, Nanolope is now opening its pre-seed round to visionary investors. We're bridging PropTech, Energy Storage, and Advanced Materials to cut heating costs by up to 50% while maintaining safety and aesthetics.

What made you become an entrepreneur?

The vision of turning passive building structures into active energy assets. We believed in a future where every square meter of facade could contribute to sustainability. so we decided to build it.

What is the most challenging part of running your own startup?

The constant need to adapt to unpredictable situations. At the moment, this includes relocating our R&D lab after a failed safety inspection, handling early-morning investor calls from overseas, and evaluating high-profile unsolicited applications while ensuring they align strategically with Nanolope’s vision.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced when looking for funding?

The hardest part is getting properly categorized. Our solution is a hybrid, part building material, part energy battery. Investors sometimes don’t know whether to assign us to a PropTech, CleanTech, or Advanced Materials partner, which slows down the process. We sit at the intersection, and that’s both our strength and our challenge.

What is the most rewarding aspect of entrepreneurship?

The freedom to build something meaningful on your own terms. You’re not reporting to someone else — you’re creating a mission, building a team around it, and watching your vision take shape in the real world.
