Food production connects some of today’s most pressing challenges: soil degradation, environmental pressures, nutrition, and the resilience of rural economies. Enviro.Farm Systems Inc. is working to address these interconnected issues through agrifood production systems built around aerobic technology.

Developed through more than 15 years of continuous effort, the company’s approach reflects its team’s ambition to combine environmental improvements with commercially viable food production. Its next challenge is securing the investment needed to build new facilities and expand its operations.

In this Startup of the Week interview, we explore the entrepreneurial journey behind Enviro.Farm, the challenges of financing capital-intensive projects, and the motivation driving its team.

Tell us about your company

We are thrilled that Enviro.Farm Systems Inc has emerged from a lifetime of experience and over 15 years of continuous effort to be capable of resolving glaring Agrifood Production problems threatening our planet, our people, and the world food economy.  Built on innovative aerobic technology, not yet understood or used by others, Enviro.Farm solves the combined problems of Climate, Environment, Human Health and Rural Economic Development to provide exceptional profits and benefits at reduced risks for investors, producers, and consumers alike.

What made you become an entrepreneur?

At an early age, my family kindled my desire to help people help themselves.  My first option was to become a Priest.  My second was counselling and psychology.  My third option, and the most satisfying, was entrepreneurship.  The choice was made for me in my first full-time Post Graduate position as Director of LEAP, a job creation program of the Government of Canada offering finance to highly disadvantaged groups willing to start their own businesses.  With a staff of 5, I mentored 10 new startups each year for ten years.  Entrepreneurship became the most satisfying activity of my life – and I have never looked back.

What is the most challenging part of running your own startup?

With Enviro.Farm, The challange is finance.  Enviro.Farm begins a new chapter in the build-out of completely new, aerobic Agrifood Production systems.  While fully proven and highly profitable, each new factory requires a large, asset-based investment.  We hope to build 10 in the first five years.  The patience to locate the right investors is the real challenge.  That is why we continue to work with The StartUp Club.  Introductions to interested investors are our lifeline.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced when looking for funding?

Small projects appear easy to fund.  Large projects require an understanding and commitment to an effort that will have a real impact.  This requires investors take time to understand the reality of the challenges facing the AgriFood industry, and the food-health of our planet.

What is the most rewarding aspect of entrepreneurship?

Knowing that after a lifetime of experience and involvement with solving varied important, but perhaps unrelated challenges,  our team and our technology have arrived at the right time to make a complete difference in solving some of the major food production problems facing our world – regenerating soils, supplying nutrient dense food, avoiding climate and environment impacts, and eliminating the huge AgriFood public health problems of obesity, diabetes, childhood asthma and elder emphysema.

From Long-Term Development to the Next Stage of Growth

For Enviro.Farm, the next chapter centres on turning years of development into a broader network of production facilities. The company aims to build ten factories within its first five years of expansion, making access to suitable investment a central priority.

Its founder’s experience mentoring entrepreneurs also brings a personal dimension to that ambition: helping people build opportunities for themselves. As Enviro.Farm pursues its growth plans, finding investors who understand both the proposed technology and the demands of building new facilities will be an important part of its journey.
